Why is my iTunes doing this?! (Edited.)

I have a playlist that's 333 songs long. So I finally decided that it was time to register the classic iPod with a far greater capacity (almost 3 times) that I had bought a couple of years ago. Well, guess what? My iTunes program does exactly the same thing with it as it had been doing with my tiny Shuffle: only 175 songs remain a) when I plug in either the old or the new iPod to synch and recharge it; AND b) on an automatically program-refreshed screen shot of the playlist! If it were just a matter of lack of memory space, then both old and new iPods should have been missing approximately the second alphabetical half of the songs, right? But the missing songs are in random order. No alphabetical logic whatsoever.

Any suggestions?

Sorry for the delay in responding. It's been a few days since I've checked this discussion board. (My main "haunt" is the Religionetc. board.)

Thanks for taking the time to respond. In comparing my printout of the playlist with the iPod's screen display, I see that most if not all of the missing songs were downloaded from my own CDs. Does this help you help me figure out the problem, or better yet, a solution?

I really don't understand your question. Are you saying that neither one of your ipods will sync half of your songs?

reply

That's right. So I don't think it's the smaller memory capacity of the Shuffle that is responsible. The problem must be with the iTunes program.

I'm going to assume you have the "Sync Music" checked on your Music Tab. Do you have it set on "Entire music library", or "Selected playlist, artists, albums, and genres". If you have the latter checked, you have to manually check your music from the Sync Music page. Make sure you've checked it all. (I think this way is a headache)

I prefer "Entire music library". This way, I can go to my Library, and in "Song List" view I can check and uncheck any given song. Make sure yours are all checked.

If you have a software problem with itunes, you can easlily uninstall and re-install it without losing any music. I had issues with mine, did this, and it remedied the problem I had with my playlist.
