kindle fire

i mistakenly asked this on the i need to know board. i have a friend that has a kindle fire and wants to play dvd's on this unit. she has a laptop running on windows xp that won't play the dvds to begin with. she wants to play dvds on the kindle fire and i'm not sure this is a viable option. i'm not familiar with tablets but i do know how to download/upload and copy and paste. please advise if what my freind wants to do is a viable option.

thank you

Why can't she play DVD's on her laptop? Is it a hardware problem or software problem?

She is unable to play dvd's on her laptop. There are screen issues with the laptop. I tried changing the settings but it seems like a low end laptop that, although it has a dvd drive, doesn't seem to have the capability of playing them. Can't really be the media, as it is 4 years old. She's more interested in playing the dvd's on the kindle though. I managed to load an episode on the kindle fire, but I received a message clearly stating that the content was transferred, but possibly not viewable. I will ask her for any manuals to see if what she wants to do is able to do. From what I have perceived, it seems she can only view downloaded material.

Thanks for your query.

@kmgonz0826 Excuse me if I misunderstand your query, but can't you just rip the DVD's into video files (e.g. .mp4 or .avi) and then copy them to the Kindle Fire?
