This is why I won't buy APPLE products!

Several years ago I won an iPad. At first, I had no idea what to do with it. But now, I love all my apps and the fact that I can watch videos, listen to music, and read books on it (among other things).
Then, my apps started needing an update or I found new apps that I wanted, only to discover that my iPad (1) was operating on the most recent iPad OS. But when I tried to update I discovered that the iPad 1 only goes up to OS 5 something. All the new apps are OS 6 or above. So, I am not able to download new apps to my iPad because the OS is out of date. Is there anything wrong with the iPad? NOPE. But, if I want any of the newer apps I need to get rid of it and upgrade to a newer version of an iPad. There is no reason that Apple couldn't make an OS 6 for the iPad 1. But they won't do it because they want to force iPad 1 owners to go out and buy a brand new iPad. When you consider how damned expensive these things are, you'd think Apple would not make them go obsolete in a few years.
I continue to use my iPad 1 with the old apps that still work. But, as I shop around for a new updated tablet, the Apple products are not even being looked at because of crap like this.

You just described technology in general. Apple and app creators would need to invest significant resources to support a four-year-old product that has become obsolete.

You think it's better with non-Apple products? On Android, for instance? Where new hardware is released with outdated Android versions that cannot be updated right out of the box? Where you do not know beforehand if Apps will run or not? Where there's no centralized App store, and you may or may not use certain stores? Where there are "App stores" that spew malware?

@Dukat-4 Where there's no centralized App store...
Isn't Google Play the central app store for Android?

reply

Yes, but it's not the only one, you're not necessarily required to use only Google Play and there are far less safeguards in place than with Apple. You may bitch and moan about Apple's walled garden, but if you stay within, you're much safer than outside. Another thing is that a great deal of developers very much prefer to develop for Apple's iOS than for Android: Android is very fragmented, requiring a lot more work to develop well, and is comprised of users who do not feel much inclined to pay for apps. In short, with iOS you actually can make money from developing and selling Apps; with Android, it's a whole lot more shaky.

@Dukat-4 Yes, but it's not the only one...
Doesn't matter. You said that "there's no centralized App store" for Android and there is - the Google Play Store.
