Microphone for video cameras.

I am looking to record sound for my films that I plan to make.

I have a microphone jack on the camera but I want something that will pick up dialoge from those in front of it and a little bit of background sound to be noticable but not overbearing.

Thank You.

depends on how far you wanna go. i would get a mic that is switchable between cardioid and omnidirectional. look at condensor mics.

I don't want to spend too much.

Just something to pick up the sound without noise.

Sony makes an array of consumer microphones for cameras. Most of them are electret condensers. Check them out for your budget. I would recommend cardioid or hypercardioid pattern.
You also might want to get some sort of windshield if you are planning to shoot on the streets or outdoors in general.
