please help me

I have an RCA surround sound system that I got for Christmas about five years ago, and the other day I went to rearrange the speaker wires and accidentally bumped one of the ends of the speakers wires (the part you stick into the back of the system) against the metal backside of the system, and it caused a spark and them my system just shut down. I had the system on when I was rearranging the wires because I've never had a problem in the past doing this, so I didn't think anything of turning it off.... so the speaker wire touched the back of my system, sparked, and shut off. I can get the red standby light to come on but when I hit power, the standby light shuts off and nothing happens. Is there something I can do to fix my system or should I just toss it? I feel bad cause I've had it for like five years, it's like my baby ya know? lol Any help would be great, thanks!

it may only be a fuse, or an entire circuit board could be fried. only way to know is open it up. it may involve some electrical circuit tests, which could cost more than it's worth.
if its just a fuse, take the fuse to radio shack and get a new one.
good luck, I lost a 400 dollar amp doing the same thing.

I might just junk it, and get a newer, better model.
Thank you for the advice though.

I think I just blew the fuse, and it's a 120Volt system, so do you think I can just replace the fuse and it will work?

Fuses are relatively cheap. Why don't you replace the fuse and find out?

That's what I would do.

Okay, thats why I came here to ask for your help lol.
Also, when I would play the system even kind of loud it would just shut off on me. (Back when it was still alive) Overheating? I put a a fan in front of it and it seemed to help it alittle bit, but it would eventually power down.
