the sounds of silence (with music for drama)
The very first "talkie" film was starring Al Jolson in "The Jazz Singer." Before Michael and Janet Jackson, and Quincy Jones and Madonna, and Jay Z and Biggie Smalls made their MTV debut videos of talking to the beat, with music adding drama to the sound of voice or even voiceless talk, in 1981 I did make a film documentary providing use of "Take the 'A' Train, "the Entertainer," and "Good Morning Heartache" for the soundtrack to an otherwise silent video. What would you think was the first voice over and dubbed musical track video to premiere in the film age? Hint: It was a sports video famous for creating a book by the title of "Instant Replay" by the late Dick Schaap. E-mail me at: [email protected]
