TV DVD trouble with MPEG

Hi,

So I have a TV that runs MPEG format files, but I was planning on buying a DVD player that has a USB port and it can take Avi and MP4 files, so my question is...if I get it and hook it up to the TV, with the TV being MPEG will it play a file from the DVD player that is MP4?

Sony or Panasonic BD players are the best for file playback, they support pretty much every codec out there. I've yet to find a downloaded file that my Sony player can't handle.

TV USB jacks, on the other hand, are generally restricted to DIVX only, maybe MP4 if you're lucky.

No it isn't.

The proper term is "directory". The "folder" BS is only a term people who are so GUI-bound that they are incapable of grasping the most basic concepts behind file systems use.

I hate calling directories "folders", always have; it just pisses in the face of the concept. Hate hate hate hate hate hate hate it. The files are no more "in" them than businesses are "in" a commercial telephone book.

*You* may "hate" it, but normal people in normal conversation use the terms interchangeably. Get that stick out of your butt.

The TV's internal media player is different from the DVD player's media player. If you're playing a file on the DVD player, the TV is only displaying what the DVD player is presenting--it doesn't care whether the DVD player is playing an MP4, AVI, or even a DVD; it just takes the video and audio coming from the DVD player and displays it.

Who still buys DVD players? Look for a blu-ray player that can play Mkv movies, or get a media player.
