4K

I doubt it. I believe streaming is the future. Personally, I prefer to "own" my movies rather than steam them. I have a Netflix account, which I enjoy, but it doesn't have the same picture/sound quality as Blu. The "4K resolution" may be higher, but the bitrate is not. It's good, but I prefer my Blus. The uncompressed audio tracks really bring the house down, plus there's something better in the experience when I'm watching a movie that I personally own, as crazy as that sounds.

I had close to 1,000 DVDs that I built up over the years before I adopted Blu-ray. There was a lot of blind buys and filler in there, though. I have around 350-400 Blu-rays at the moment, most of them my personal favourites. There's no way that I'm replacing them again. To me, Blu-ray still looks and sounds amazing. I don't think the jump in quality is as big as DVD to Blu. If a set is calibrated right, I can have trouble telling what is HD and what is UHD.

I'm agreeing with Fry ! Streaming is here to stay , but it's a very hollow gift for the viewer.. you end up with nothing . Netflix is a quick-fix , if you don't have a lot of time . I prefer to collect , and it has paid of for my relaxation time , when I can sit back and consider what I want to watch !

Generally , new Bluray players will upscale a Dvd to near Bluray quality now . But to play 4K , you need a 4K player and a 4K Tv . And Yes , there is a noticeable improvement in clarity between the formats (dvd,bluray,4k).
I've noticed that some of the 4K movies being sold , are now including a Bluray Disc as well !


I agree! With Netflix, I can flick through for minutes at a time contemplating what I want to watch and the experience is rather hollow, as you put it. But when I browse my movie collection and pop a disc it, it's a better experience.
