Now I'm a big fan of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Jessica Stevebson but I just didn't like it. I didn't watch it when it was broadcast but have downloaded the box set on 4od but couldn't get into it.

shareI love Spaced. I was around 10 when it was first on TV in the UK so I didn't really get into it until a few years ago when I bought the boxset. It's great for repeat viewing. Enjoy!

I loved it, I was at Uni living in digs with a bunch of hapless, drug popping, beer chugging losers when it was first on so I was the target demographic and got all the references first time around, it is very much a TV series of its era though... I can imagine it falling quite flat on lots of people now. I can still watch it now and find it completely hilarious though, it was a work of genius.
Referring to any religion as a mental handicap sounds inappropriate, despite being true.
I loved Spaced, but I think you have to be a big movie fan to fully appreciate the series. If someone has never seen "The Shining" for example, they would be totally lost.

That pretty much sums it up. In my mind it's one of the greatest comedies of all time, but then, like you said, it's very much a product of its era. The pop culture references are hilarious for people in our age group, but might be easily lost on a younger or older generation. I imagine the youth of the early 80s felt similar about The Young Ones in terms of the pop/punk culture and political climate of the period.
Growing up skating, the drugs, the raving (Tyres pilling off his nut to the sound of household items), making Lara Croft commit suicide over and over, Star Wars, The Matrix, share accommodation etc etc were all very relatable to me. I probably rewatch it once a year or so and the humour never wears thin.

Bloody brilliant. It's not my all time favourite Britcom but the references are awesome- the more TV and films I watch, the more references I get. Not to mention that it's so funny and quirky. Underrated, I think.
