BBC TV schedule for Saturday 20 October 1951

Found in old edition of "Radio Times":
11:00AM- Newsreel ("composite edition")
12:00PM - Sign-off
2:45PM - To be announced
5:00PM - "For the Children" (including "Whirligig", "Box of Tricks", "Sing, Merrily, Sing!", "Stranger from Space", "Hank Rides Again")
6:00PM - Sign off
8:00PM - "Sherlock Holmes" (episode title: "The Empty House")
8:35PM - "Top-Hat Rendezvous" (variety show)
9:35PM - "Saturday-Night Story"
9:50PM - Newsreel (Friday's edition repeated)
10:05PM - Weather forcast and news (sound only)

I believe all the programming on this schedule is lost. Shame, I would have liked to be able to see the version of "Sherlock Holmes" as well as the variety show.

I can post more early 1950s BBC schedules if anyone wants.

They should release more films and TV shows on DVD and Blu-ray

If you live in the UK then join Wolverhampton libraries. http://www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/libraries They'll send a ticket with a number to anyone in the country, which you can use to access an online archive of the 'Daily Mirror' and 'Daily Express'. The point of course being that you can read the old TV listings.

I live in Australia, but still that is very interesting. I went to the State Library of Victoria some months ago so I could get a card to access their online hosting of scans of old newspapers (which of course, I need to access to get info on some 1950s/1960s Australian series).

Didn't I hear that all Radio Times old content will be online soon? When is this happening?

If you are a member of a college or similar (student or staff), you can get access to the British Universities Film & Video Council's website, which has old TV Times listings for ITV programmes between 1955 and 1985 (and Channel 4 after 1982).

This would have been the first of a short series with Alan Wheatley as Holmes. If you can post some more Radio Times listings, I for one would be very interested.

I submitted to IMDb a submission for "Down Our Street", which previously wasn't listed on IMDb. I hope I didn't screw up the submission. It will probably be a while before the info I submitted is included on the page.

It's a shame that virtually all of the 1949 BBC programming is lost. "Designed for Women" might be historically interesting to watch now, while "Down Our Street" features a good cast.

Who?..Who..is he calling?..Who? This hand..Oh..It's my hand again..my hand..ME?

All BBC television listings should be available on:

Thanks, I've just created several pages for series previously not listed on IMDb, using that site as a source.
