Some of the worst and unfunny sitcoms are listed in this thread.

I think it is because they try emulate the American style of comedy writing: by commitee and conveyor belt fashion where the "comedy" is lightly sprinkled across the span of a single episode instead of it being concentrated at a certain point after a careful build up (as found in most of the best British sitcoms).
