The only really well written British Sitcoms for me were "Yes Minister" and "Yes Prime Minister". Two excellent lead actors and a funny and intelligent and well observed script which is still relevant today.
Hard to beat.

Agree with the 'relevant' part.
Fawlty Towers and Blackadder might not be relevant today (They weren't supposed to be even at the time of making) but are and will remain timeless.

Fawlty Towers wasn't my cup of tea but I enjoyed Black Adder - particularly the Elizabethan incarnation !!
