You might want to consider using a custom hosts file, and possibly a non-MS web browser such as Chrome or Firefox.

A custom hosts file will block more than just ads, and it does so in a more resource-efficient way than an ad-blocking program/browser add-on.

Everything you need to know is right here: http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm

Hope this helps.

Wait until August 2nd, that's when the anniversary update is due to drop, one of the features is Edge add-ons. Once you've updated you should just be able to download Edge adblocker from the Windows store.

i agree with Coldheart2236. i have been using that HOSTS file for a while now that he linked to as it don't matter what browser your using with those since it blocks anything in that list at the system level as if your browser (any browser) etc tries to make a connection to something in the hosts file it simply will think there is no connection there and not load anything tied to it.

also, uBlock Origin is basically a better version (uses less resources) of the popular 'Adblock Plus' which blocks a lot of junk on the web.

Yep.

in fact, i am downloading the Anniversary Update now as i type this.

with that said... i might try playing with a ad blocker etc in Edge. but in the end... i doubt ill be dumping 'Pale Moon x64' which has been my primary browser for years now.

EDIT: after playing with the anniversary update a bit i think it was a good update overall as it made some changes like the start menu is different/improved vs the previous one as it's more efficiently setup with things easier to access with less clicks. like for example... to access your general programs now you simply click the windows start thing and hover mouse over the program area and scroll to go through programs you have installed etc etc. even some other little odds and ends are improved a bit. i have not played with the Edge extensions but ill probably wait a while til someone releases say 'uBlock Origin' for it etc. Edge feels smooth but it along with Chrome are just too RAM hungry for my liking which is one of the bigger reasons i prefer Pale Moon x64 or Firefox as those are much more RAM efficient especially when running for a while with plenty of tabs open they use much less RAM.

also, i noticed it apparently keeps a folder 'windows.old' on the C drive for 10 days in case you want to roll back to the previous 10586.xxx build which is currently taking up about 15.5GB of space. ill probably keep a eye on it and see if windows 10 removes it automatically after the 10 days is up which i imagine it will.
