Casting Notice for National Velvet

Story Description:

RnD Productions LA is casting National Velvet, a stage adaptation of the original story by Enid Bagnold, a version of which was made famous by the 1944 film of the same name. The film won 2 oscars and hold 3 nominations. This is a story of a young dreamy eyed girl with a desire to win the Grand National race with a horse that she acquires from an unexpected source. She earns the heart of a headstrong ex-jockey to help her train the horse to win.

Rehearsals Feb. ~ April, performances run May-June at a venue TBD, Los Angeles.

ROLES:

VELVET BROWN: girl, 11-14, adventuresome and lively, a notorious dreamer, LEAD (role is cast - seeking understudy)

MI TAYLOR: male, 18-22, the family's resident handy-man with past connections to the Brown family, requires a British accent

MRS. BROWN: female, 40-50, the mother, tough, gentle and even-tempered, requires a southern accent and ability to do British (this role is cast - seeking understudy)

MR. CELLINI: male, 70-75, next-door-neighbor, distraught over recent loss of wife, raspy voice, requires a southern accent and ability to do British

MR. BROWN: male, 45-55, stern yet loving, the father (role is cast - seeking understudy)

DONALD BROWN: boy, mentally slow but playful and mischievous, brother of the girls (role is cast - seeking understudy)

EDWINA BROWN: girl, 17, lovestruck teenager, soon off to college (role is cast - seeking understudy)

MALLY BROWN: girl, 15, stubborn and self-absorbed (role is cast - seeking understudy)
