Is there some unwritten rule that opera singers do not generall kiss on the lips? I've noticed recently in some of the Met's productions and a few other clips online that they usually kiss on the cheek, but make it look like the lips.

Just curious.

It's what stage actors generally do.

Besides the fact that, if you are kissing somebody on the mouth, neither of you can sing.
