Anyone Here Seen War Horse on Stage?

It's part of my new season subscription, and I'm really looking forward to it (though I think it's still about 6 months away). I saw the movie twice last year and truly loved it. I think the play must be almost completely different, though. If you've seen it, let me know what you thought! Thanks!

I haven't seen it (although I've seen quite a bit of stage footage), but from what I hear the experience is much different depending on whether you are in the UK or the U.S. The original UK version is absolutely mind-blowing; the U.S. version is watered down, and much less about the horse and its fabulous movements and emotions. That said, if you liked the movie, which is watered down and changed even more, and of course doesn't have the mind-blowing puppets, this shouldn't be a problem.

I simply cannot imagine the the two versions are not close to identical. I have never read or heard anywhere that there are two versions as different as you claim. Why would they bother???

Well, check into it yourself. It's fairly common knowledge, and a common complaint from those who have seen both versions.

Saw the stage version in NY and was blown away, terribly moved, found it unforgettable. Saw the film in the theatre and had the opposite reaction, forget an hour later. Story was dragged out and tedious. A modern "Lassie Come Home" Blame Spielberg.

Well it's finally almost here! Seeing War House this coming Wednesday, Sept. 19th. I'm stoked!

I love replying to myself. But I must, because if anyone ever checks this thread I want them to know what an incredible experience War Horse is on stage. I swear, much of it had so many "battle sequences" that I though I was watching Saving Private Ryan! The horses were beautifully done, and I loved every second of it. You've never seen anything quite like it - take my word.
