I have a question about the 1970 chevelle LS6. Does anyone know how many was build? I seen a article about rare cars they said 20 was built. I know they are rare and getting rarer but I think that was an low number. I'm thinking maybe 20 convertibles but not 20 total.

There appear to have been approximately 4,475 LS6 Chevelle Super Sports manufactured in 1970. It can be broken down further by engine code. This code would indicate the engine and transmission type (as well as HD clutch option). There is debate about an L89 option that was available in 1970. It has been stated that Chevrolet dropped the L89 option for the 1970 year, however it is rumored that a few L89 70 Chevelles exist.

In the end it is difficult to accurately determine the total number of LS6 convertible Chevelles produced. GM has not released those break down numbers. There are best guesses based on other sales numbers that have been used to best guess production numbers for the Chevelle. The number is expected to be maybe around 2% of the total number produced were convertibles. The biggest factor that is against the LS6 option and the convertible is the use of a big block high horsepower engine being used in a convertible it just wasn't something that was sought after when people went to order a car. Structurally the convertible is weaker and not a great platform for the 454 engine.
