I disagreed with TG's pick of the Worst Car; from how they described it, it more boring than awful.

Only one on that list that my family owned was the Corvair, but we also had AMC Pacers, Ford Pintos, and Chevrolet Vegas.

I really like the second generation Corvair. I would love to get my hands on a '68 or '69 coupe.

My guy I knew made a mouse Vega with a 350 4 barrel. It had a bumpy camp, high rise manifold, hooker headers, and Cherry Bomb Q "mufflers". I didn't like to ride in it because the brakes were way too wimpy for the engine and I always feared important components would unexpectedly vibrate off.

That's crazy.

We had a couple of 1st-gen Monza Spyder convertibles, but I never got to ride in them; they were all 'retired' by the time I came along.

The Corvair I would like to have is the Greenbriar pickup truck. I'm fascinated with how you design a rear-engined pickup truck.

Thing is, though, that the Vega was a clone of the amazing Opel Manta Ray. We had a Vega wagon, and the Manta coupe. That Manta would just SPIN, and the engine was iron-clad. I don't know how the quality managed to break down so precipitously between the finely-tuned Opel and the tuneless Vega.

If you were lucky, apparently, you managed to get a Vega with all-Opel running gear; my grandfather bought one of those, brand-new in 1972. Probably because it was the Kammback wagon - not a real station wagon, but a metal-sided 'coupe express.'

- Crazy. All crazy but I'm.

My dad bought an orange Corvair at a garage sale in the late 70's. It just sat in our yard for like 2 years and my mother was like get that POS out of here. He also bought a 1977 Dodge Monaco at another garage sale in the early 80's and sold it to his brother like a year later. I liked that car. It was an ex squad car. The Corvair never did run. He also bought a 1965 Galaxie and a 1965 Chevy PU long bed at garage sales. He resold them more than he paid for them.
