Best car company in America that got shut down in the 21st Century?

We have Mercury, Isuzu (not the semi-truck line), Plymouth, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Geo, Daewoo, Hummer, Saab, and Saturn. Which is the most missed and if you could bring back one company, which would it be?

I'd bring back Oldsmobile, the Cutlass is an all time muscle classic. Even the 90's and 2000's model of the Cutlass kicked ass, and they were modeled after the Chevy Malibu! Pontiac was cool too, and Mercury was awesome at one point too, and I feel as if they were shut down right as they were becoming good again.

I have El Sonoma del Torra de Fiero Syndrome. Be happy you don't. Trust me.

I miss the Pontiac. I have a 2 door 97 Grand Prix. I always thought that Buick should've gone instead of Pontiac. Then GM would've had Chevy for a family car,
Pontiac for a sporty car, and Cadillac for a luxury car.
Instead now they have one family and two luxury cars.

But GM forgot to ask me.

I think the biggest mistake GM made was shutting down Saturn.

Their "no haggle" pricing policies and innovative designs could and should have been the future of GM. In fact, I would have shut down Chevrolet before I shut down Saturn.

@jon-gwynne. chevrolet is their oldest and most famous brand, why would they drop that? there is no GM without chevrolet.

i guess the biggest shutdown was Pontiac. shame too as the G8 was just starting to gain momentum. hopefully it transitions well to the Chevy brand.

Saturn was in a better market position than Chevrolet.

I want Pontiac back. With a new team and a refocus on performance,it could be a viable brand again.Bring back a few of old favorites like Firebird,Grand Prix, and the LeMans/GTO.

Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental

Not so.
GM's first car line was Buick.
Followed by Oldsmobile then Cadillac then Reliance Motor Truck Company.
Then came Rapid Motor Vehicle Company of Pontiac, Michigan, the predecessors of GMC Truck.
All of them by 1910.
In 1911 they started Chevrolet Motor Car Company.
1916 General Motors Company incorporated and became General Motors Corporation.

So I guess Chevy was technically the last in their original car brands.

Although I think you are arguably right that Chevrolet is probably the best known of their brands.
