The car of my dreams was a blue '69 or '70 Mustang (the Larry Shinoda designs), the kind with the fastback body style and the black louvers covering the rear window. Back then, Cragar wheels, "wide O oval" Firestone tires and a set of "slapper bars" was the standard setup. I'd want mine with the 429 Boss motor, the one with the "shotgun" heads, but I'd settle for a Boss 302 or Cleveland 351 motor if I had to. Of course that's if I was getting one back then! If I got one today, I'd be afraid to drive it on public roads.
At one time I owned a "matching set", a '67 Camaro and Firebird, both with 400 CID motors that weren't exactly stock 15 years after they came from the factory. Many of my wealthier high school classmates drove late-'70s Firebirds. They were overweight and underpowered compared to the originals. By 1973 these cars were weak.
A mechanic at a local gas station owned a Plumb Crazy 426 Hemi 'Cuda. That seemed like a pretty nice car, although my limited exposure to Chrysler cars never really had me lusting after it like I did the Mustangs...
