Why did Disneyland /Walt Disney World change the way to meet characters?

I have been a fan of Disneyland since I was a little girl and for me when I go to Disneyland an iconic milestone for me on every Disneyland trip is meeting the characters and getting autographs but now I have noticed that Disneyland/Walt Disney World has changed the way to meet characters and now it seems that getting autographs from characters is impossible at the Disney parks now? For example I have never understood why they make you wait in a very long line just so you can get that certain character's autograph and when I first went to Disneyland as a little girl the characters would simply walk around the park and Disneyland had Kodak Picture Spots where you could take pictures and get autographs from the characters easily but now it's impossible these days. Is this because Disney parks are trying to save money by improving their ways to meet characters now? Another habit I've noticed with Disneyland and Walt Disney World with the characters that makes getting autographs hard is that they will announce something like "Ladies And Gentlemen Boys And Girls Meet Ian And Barley from Onward beginning in five minutes" but after people wait in line to meet the Onward characters Disneyland/Walt Disney World replaces them with other characters and I have never figured it out. Finally when you attend a Disney character breakfast and you have kids holding their autograph books out so characters can sign them they have an annoying habit of skipping tables including your own and it completely ruins the joy and you have unhappy kids. It used to be that at character breakfasts the characters stopped at each table to spend a few minutes with children. If Disney parks could improve meeting characters and getting autographs it would make the parks better

I think a way that Disney Parks could improve the character meet and greets is have each character spend a total of 14 minutes with each person and that would have each person to say hello get an autograph chat with the person a little then move on to the next person in line and it would save time. I've also heard that once the Coronavirus pandemic is over and the parks return to normal that the Disney Parks are planning to charge people money for character autographs and photos like Christmas photos with Santa at the malls and give kids baseball card style trading cards with the characters photo on them and I can't believe that Disney Parks are gonna start doing this to people. I mean the autographs are supposed to be free with park admission and people want their kids to have a happy time not attend a Dodgers baseball game. Another thing I find shocking is that character autographs are scarce to find outside of the park and even if you write Disney to ask for a character's autograph they have no clue and I know for a fact you can request Disney character autographs for free because some kids have gotten birthday cards from the characters with an autograph and a birthday greeting as well. But if Disney parks improve their character meet and greets character autographs would be easy to get these days
