Question about traveling by train in Europe
I've been looking into traveling around Europe by train and according to my research, there's not really any way to conveniently travel spontaneously and everything pretty much has to be planned ahead of time.
According to Eurail, you have to purchase a pass for the countries you plan to visit, but you also have to make reservations for specific trains, and Eurorail recommends you make you make reservations 2-3 months ahead of time and they mail the tickets to you in your home country before you even arrive in Europe.
Is this pretty much correct, or are there any other ways to travel by train and make up your itinerary as you go along, or at least not have your schedule so strictly regimented ahead of time?
