Keep your money out of sight, especially on the metro. I'm very street-smart, but was taken back by the number of pickpockets operating there, especially around La Rambla. You WILL be targeted.

Yeah i have heard that, ill mainly use card but we are getting a money strap and a very secure handbag. My boyfriend was pickpocketted last time he was there. Just have to remember to always hold onto my
bag!!

My wife had her hand-bag grabbed, as the doors were closing on the metro. We managed to hold on to it.

It was our first day, and however experienced you are, however street-savvy you are, you still project a certain "my first day here" look. Whenever I'm in a place the first day, I try to be more careful, and make sure I'm walking with a sense of direction.

I spent four days in Barcelona, before embarking on a Pyrenees trek, and loved the city. Down around the port we found some inexpensive restaurants, which served nothing more than fried sardines and wine. Other than that, you can get good value food in any of the several daily markets.
