There was a documentary on a while ago about him. It's not really my cup of tea but I love the way he marries Asian with Western, it's really unique and aesthetically very appealing
shareMy main interest is in 17th Century art, to be honest, but there is something very fine about Markino: and yes, it's the particular quality that comes from Western scenes viewed with Asian sense of composition; the strange hybrid of western watercolour and eastern woodblock print.
It helps tremendously that I'm so familiar with the streets he paints and transforms.
