Some fine paintings here. But the real surprise for me was a painting by Matthias Stom, an artist I've often thought of as a rather hard, and unappealing. This one is an absolute delight:

The painting normally lives in Birmingham. Stom's "Salome receiving the Head of John the Baptist" is pretty amazing too:

And meanwhile, across the pond, the Met has an exhibition called "Valentin de Boulogne - Beyond Caravaggio". Funny, that. It looks like a real scorcher, and brings together a large number of paintings by Valentin for the first time. One I shan't get to, however...
