Decided to get back into painting with watercolors over the winter and have found that I am really interested in the Tropical works of Winslow Homer 'Palm Tree, Nassau, 1898'.
I also like the works and styles of John Pike, like 'Brewing Storm, Jamaica' and J.M.W Turner's 'Venice' watercolors.
If there are any watercolors aficionados around, π¨ππ΄
suggestions would be much appreciated.
When you search Google for an artist like for example Turner you'll also get recommendations of similar artists and it goes on from there.
Turner is the best imo though.
True, Turner did paint in the Mediterranean and I have several books on his paintings and watercolors, I am a huge admirer.
But Turner was only mentioned for his style, his use of sky and water particularly-what I guess I am looking for are watercolor artists who concentrated on painting in the Tropics, what has recently occurred to me is that I should probably pick a Tropical location like Hawaii and search for some of it's more notable artists in this medium.
Was just hoping to pick someone's brain who might be really knowledgeable about this field and knew more specific works to look about at.

im afraid I'm not that much of a watercolour fan but gauguin did some amazing work when he was living in Tahiti. don't know if you've looked at those at all (sadly not watercolour)
I found when I was at uni the suggestions for artists worked really well but my specialism and interest was a lot broader lol.

I'm not au fait with any contemporary watercolourists but if you're looking for 18th and 19th century artists who worked in the tropics most of their output tended to be botanical, animal and anthropological illustration. If you're after someone who was capable of combining all three and setting them in a landscape (sometimes reminiscent of Turner) then Thomas Baines is probably your best bet http://bit.ly/2h7NpMB
