There's a really popular portrait called the "Mona Lisa". It's probably one of the most reproduced images ever.

Being one of the most iconic images in the art world (if not the universe), the Mona Lisa undoubtedly ranks as one of the "Great Paintings".

As art is such a subjective matter, every painting is overrated in the opinion of someone. It's all a matter of preference.

What about some other recommendations, then?

I didn't say it wasn't a great painting I said it was the most overrated painting of all time....Go and see it and then you'll know. Until you see something there in front of you you cannot comment on it really.
As for recommendations....What period, what movement etc etc. The list would just be endless lol
