why a fifth Pirates after the last one disappointed?
who is asking for this?

The last one was the second highest grossing in the franchise (making only $20.5m less than the highest), one of the only two in the franchise to pass a billion (something only 27 films have ever managed), and is still the 20th highest grossing film of all time worldwide.

and it got terrible reviews and was the worst grossing of the series domestically. The next one is guaranteed to drop a lot. When Disney has Marvel and Star Wars, why they feel they need to go back to this series is beyond me.
shareYou're right - they should make sequels to Tron, Pete's Dragon and Prince of Persia instead of making another sequel to a franchise that regularly outgrosses their Marvel films (only four of which have made more money) and can pull in a billion even with bad reviews for every one of the sequels. It's almost as much of a mystery as why Coca Cola still sell regular Coke when they have so many other brands as well.

when did I mention those films?
we just had a Captain America movie outgross the last POTC worldwide
The difference is the Marvel movies get good WOM and have potential to grow while each POTC film is getting worse and worse received
You're making a rather absurd argument that because a film that made over a billion dollars and saw big growth in the international markets got bad reviews - as did every single one of the sequels - Disney should drop the franchise because they have other franchises that make much less money but get better reviews on the offchance that they might do better in the future.
each POTC film is getting worse and worse received
Which is clearly why the last in the series made more money than the third while the only one to get good reviews, the first, will drop off the top 100 grossers by Christmas. You may not want them, but there's a huge audience for them - much bigger than for Thor, Superman, Batman or any comic book characters from any source other than Iron Man and Avengers teamups. No sane studio head is going to pull the plug on a guaranteed hit just because they have a couple of properties that can do even better. It's like Fox saying they won't make any more X-Men films because the last one got bad reviews (but still made a profit) because they've got the Avatar sequels coming up.

Did you miss the box office for Alice 2?
shareDid you miss the box-office for the last three Pirates movies?
And who do you think was genuinely disappointed at Disney when the last Pirates became the second highest grossing in the franchise?

If this were a boxing match a referee would have have stopped this by now!
