Reviews thus far suggest Star Trek "Beyond" isn't another Final Frontier

or Nemesis, but it may not be as good as its predecessors.

For the most part reading the buzz about the reviews it seems this one is the closest one to TOS, unlike the first two reboots. Which while thats a good thing, could it hurt its chances at the B/O? Anyway.....

I think this movie is overcoming its odds in fantastic form. First we got a bland teaser (although I personally liked it), then we waited like 5 months or so for a really good, full length trailer. Which was good. Then we got Rihanna which is a total embarrassment for most singing a theme song for the movie, then a third trailer featuring her song (which was better then the teaser anyway). Then we had a controversial over thinking from IMDB and society in general over Sulu being gay, I myself got caught up on the wrong side of that. But at least I admit I was wrong and its a step in the right direction for Trek.

Anyway this movie isn't out of the woods yet, only 7 reviews, but only one rotten and even it doesn't slam it really.

I think we'll see a 65-75% on RT, which is excellent for a director that isn't known for overwhelming praise from critics (but mind you he did kickstart the Fast franchise in the right direction)

At any rate we shall see come next weekend if "Beyond" can keep the reboots alive and well, personally I hope so!

I really dislike the two reboot films (which I rank immediately below The Final Frontier and Nemesis) so I dearly hope Beyond is better than its predecessors.

Really don't understand the dislike for the new films. The second wasn't as good as the first but I would put both above most of the previous films.

Not sure I get why anyone hates the 2009 Trek. Into Darkness wasn't as good but still better then most sci-fi films with big budgets.

I actually quite enjoy Final Frontier/Nemesis. They aren't my least favorites of their respective collective.

I hope Beyond turns the reboots into more original territory though.

Not sure I get why anyone hates the 2009 TrekI always thought Star Trek was a case where the fans of the original series were completely correct in their subjective criticism - the new movies are nothing like the series. It seemed obvious that the makers were trying to make broader movies that appealed to Joe Public, not just Trekkies. The old movies had horrific legs and horrific box office outside the US - the new ones basically sacrificed the Trekkies/fans to get more potential box office overall. It worked, both had decent legs and Darkness finally broke out overseas making 249M, 51% of its gross, overseas.

Personally I was never a fan of ST at all (although Picard was a charismatic/interesting character) so I don't mind the new movies :)

The dislike that some of the more passionate fans have for the newer movies is that they didn't really feel like Star Trek, and felt more like straightforward action films that happened to be set in space. From what I've been hearing though, Beyond is apparently less action oriented than the previous two movies, despite what the initial teaser would have you believe.

Not sure I get why anyone hates the 2009 Trek

As a big fan of Star Trek, especially ST: TNG, ST: DS9 and ST: Voyager TV series, I was looking forward to see the 2009 ST reboot. I liked the idea of it being a "prequel", showing me how the the original team got together to become the famous crew of the Enterprise. I was enjoying the film up until the point when they decided to do a time travel story to wipe out and change the timeline, thereby wiping out/invalidating all the history/narrative built up in all the TV series and past movies I've seen and loved, so that soured that movie for me, and the ones that followed. I didn't see the point of blowing up Vulcan, changing the timeline, and creating this new parallel universe. ST does thrive on parallel universes (Infinite diversities, Infinite combinations, they say), so if people like these reboots and it opens ST to a greater audience and fan base then that's great. But personally, I'm more looking forward to the new TV series coming up in 2017, because it will more likely continue the history and narrative I've seen in the past TV shows and movies (pre-Abrams), which I prefer to the new ST reboots.

Crushes should be like Kleenex -- soft, strong, and disposable.

because it was cheap exploitation and a generic action movie that had nothing to do with star trek
