Will 'Suicide Squad' occupy IMAX screens next week as well?

Or will either 'Kubo and the Two Strings' or 'Mechanic: Resurrection' get IMAX release for a week before 'Sully' comes out?

Which scenario do you think is more likely and why?

reply

Maybe Mechanic, but I think Sucide Squad might be in it till Sully.

Some screens did go over to Ben-Hur this weekend, and they could always do a re-release (like they did with Jurassic World this time last year), to try and squeeze a little extra out of a quiet period, and also a number of IMAX sites are closing for renovation in order to be open when blockbusters come back.

Yes, although some IMAX theaters are showing Ben-Hur now. But none of the openers next week or the week after are planned for IMAX. However, some theaters that have premium large format screens (RPX, etc.) will probably play either Don't Breathe or Mechanic on those screens.

Actually, never mind. 'Jason Bourne' is getting an IMAX release instead:

On there it says select theaters. I think the ones that currently have Ben-Hur will switch to Bourne and many of the ones that currently have Suicide Squad will keep that.

If they rerelease certain films for imax around home media, they should offer something you cant get on home video like extra scenes.

Guys, we have a problem. Unlike what I initially thought, 'Sully' comes out on September 9 instead of September 2:

...meaning that we have a week of September 2 to fill out IMAX release, and unfortunately, only 'The Light Between Oceans' and 'Morgan' are coming out on that day and none of them look like they're suited for IMAX release.

What do you think will happen? Do you think:
-'Jason Bourne' and 'The Jungle Book' will share IMAX screens for 2 weeks in total?
-'Kubo and the Two Strings' will get an IMAX release on that time?
-'Suicide Squad' will occupy IMAX screens until 'Sully' comes out on September 9?
-Something else will happen?

Which scenario do you think is going to happen and why?

Jungle Book's press release say it is going to be back until Sept 1, so sounds like something new the week after. Maybe a re-release of Civil War in the same vein as it is about to hit home, and also would be a nice week to put one their FL films in select US theaters (like they did with Stalingrad and Wolf Totem).

BTW, some IMAXes in key markets like Lincoln Square in New York and Navy Pier in Chicago (among others) are closing for renovation from the "liemax" digital system to the "real" laser projection, and will probably re-open with Doctor Strange or Fanastic Beasts. So indeed, IMAX clearly see this as a down period.
