I wish I could have pet birds!!
But I have a cat who wasn't raised around birds (I know if they're raised together they might be okay) and I live in a small apartment, so it's not practical.
Can I ask you some questions?
My local pet store has finches, canaries, and also java finches -- what are they like? The java finches were interacting with me a lot. One of them had just laid an egg, and I was sorely tempted to ask the guy who runs the shop -- who pointed out the egg to me -- if I could take it home to incubate it! He had said it was probably fertile but that he wasn't going to let them incubate and hatch any eggs. Since he wasn't interested I felt like asking for it, but didn't when I remembered from animal rescue shows that baby birds need feeding every two hours....!
My family had budgies when I was a child but I didn't hang around them much -- what are budgies really like as pets?
My dream is to have a backyard with a couple of geese or Indian runner ducks.
I haven't had java finches, I had zebra finches.
Budgies are fun pets. They are easy to tame and can talk (although mine doesn't). I had one in the past that learned to say "hello" from the galah. They can be loud at times, but usually aren't too noisy. They are a good choice for an apartment.

I had a parakeet named Petey when I was a kid. He showed up on our back porch one day, and we never could figure out where he'd come from. Poor little guy didn't live very long, but we all loved him while he was with us.
I want a pet chicken(s) soooo badly. There's just something awesome about them. I was apple-picking at a farm the other day, and they had various pretty chickens and a beauuuutiful peacock running around...oh man, the way they walk and bob their heads and peck at corn and jump off of tractors!! Eeeee!!
I have 2 love birds, 24 budgies and 4 bengalese finches all in the same aviary. The love birds are more intelligent but I must admit the budgies are my favorites. Some of the budgies are knowing as well. I love them all.
shareI have a Triton Cockatoo---precious best bird.
shareI'm really glad I didn't take that egg home after all. I was tempted to have that experience and the tameness that would result if the poor thing managed to survive, but sanity prevailed!
I guess the next best thing would be to acquire a bird from a good, experienced owner who hand-rears any young already. I've been following Bowie the parakeet on Youtube, and I'd love one like him one day.
