Is it safe to feed my cat StarKist albacore tuna?

Or its not. Just feed him regular cat food is best?

My 12-year-old guy is a 9-Lives/Friskies man most of the time, but at Christmas
I give him a can of tuna fish instead of the canned cat food, and he seems to like it.

I see. Just once a year.

Actually, I eat it about once a week, and I give him a little spoonful whenever I do. But it's really not advisable to give it to a cat on a regular basis, because its mercury content is thought to be unsafe for cats, as well as
its level of sodium. It may also be a little too rich for some cats' digestive
systems.

Canned tuna alone is not sufficient in taurine and other nutrients NEEDED in a balanced cat diet.

Canned tuna can lead to deficiencies which are harmful.

I only use a little ball of tuna to cover their medications, as then they will take it.

I'm glad someone has mentioned how vital taurine and certain other necessary nutrient additions are.

Feeding only people-foods like a can of tuna, and no commercially produced foods specifically designed for a cat's dietary needs can indeed cause harmful deficiencies.
