I Lost My Sweet Cat Echo on Saturday......

I lost my sweet cat Echo on Saturday night. Basically the vet thinks she had a tick bite or bobcat fever and the odds weren't in her favor to recover by the time I got her to the emergency vet it was either a blood transfusion (which may not have worked and would've cost $1400) or euthanization. And the vet really didn't give me a good prognosis on the transfusion working. My heart just broke seeing her the way she was towards the end and I knew that I didn't want to take her home to die. I asked the emergency vet how often they saw cats come in like Echo and he said ten times a week! I never thought it was that common. So, I've been all depressed and I've wanted a sign that she was ok, wherever she was. I'd like to believe in the Rainbow Bridge, I really do, but I've always been so curious about what happens to humans and animals after death. Well, I have a few other cats and it's been hard for me to be at home since Echo passed away. That's what bothers me. So I thought I should run my Netflix movies to the post office and also go to Sonic (anything to get out of the house). While I was at Sonic and driving out to go home, I noticed a small black cat in the parking lot. It wasn't close enough for me to get it, but I did find the encounter to be somewhat odd as Echo was a black cat too. I typically don't see black cats in the Sonic parking lot. You know, maybe it wasn't anything at all, but I still find that encounter to be somewhat of a coincidence. I miss Echo greatly and I just wish I could see her again.

My condolences on your loss.

It may be too soon to think about but there are many in need of good homes. You could both help each other if you adopt another pet.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. It's never easy having to say goodbye to our beloved pets, and each one is unique.

All you can do now is try to give all your love and hugs to your other cats; they are still here and still need you. And yes, other kitties need homes, so maybe when you feel ready, in your own time, there might be a place in your heart again for a new member of the family.

I am so sorry for your loss jbphill84, I have gone through it so many times in the past decades, there will always be a little hole in your heart. I've memorized a quote from the author Rita Mae Brown that sometimes helps me:
"I still miss those I loved who are no longer with me But I find I am grateful for having loved them. The gratitude has finally conquered the loss."
Perhaps you should go back to that Sonic parking lot and see if you can help that little black kitty.

I will never let you part, for you are always in my heart: MJ

Sorry for your baby Echo. He's at the rainbow bridge. :) It's awesome you adopted a black cat. I do rescue, and we do these huge fairground events, and at the end of the day, all the cats and kittens are gone EXCEPT cage after cage of black cats. They have it tough in the adoption game. Bless you for considering a black cat. They are my favorite.

That's very sad to hear that people don't want black cats, Lena. I adopted a black cat!

Is there a reason why people don't like them and leave them behind? If it's just the "bad luck" thing then that's a silly superstition and I'm shocked people are still influenced by such things. In other countries a black cat is actually "good" luck, not bad.

When I was at the shelter looking for a new kitten, I lined up several to "meet" in the meeting room, and I chose the one with the sweetest personality, who immediately connected with me and was friendly and bonding. It just happened to be a little black kitten! I've never cared about color, just personality. My cat is great, very loving.

It figures you would adopt a black cat. All of my experiences with you here on IMDB point to you being an AWESOME human 😻

Yes, sadly it's true about black cats http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Black-cats-have-bad-luck-getting -adopted-3994355.php. I have some black cats. :). Some who I bottle fed. They were sick from the pound. And I lost 2 from the litter as they were orphans sick, and starting off in the hole. And most of them were Hemingway Manx cats. Looking back I'm wondering how any survived as bad URI 2 week old bottle feeders. But this little guy has 8 toes. And a stub tail. Jet black.

His brother lost his eye from infection. I could not save it. His eye was too vulnerable at two weeks with being infected and sealed. But, his other brother who is a Bengal mix has 7 toes I did manage to pry that eye open and save it. Thank God. . So I called him...well... guess....lol....7.... But the sweet pea who lost his eye was adopted by the vet at the adoption shelter (where I adopt them out) because she fell in love with him after doing surgery to remove the eye. He was jet black too. What I'm saying, those black cats are snuggle bunnies. Soooooooooo like jello.....And very needy. Great loving cats. All bottle feeders become very snuggly cats.

But I love black cats. They tend to be lap cats....

Awesome you love animals and cats. God smiles on you. And is proud of you. :)
