Hyenas

Interesting report on the menace hyenas are posing in Addis Ababa. What strikes me reading this and other reports is how many wild animals are being forced into urban environments for food and shelter. Of course this brings them into conflict with human interests and, in the case of a predator such as a hyena, human life.

No I don't. I would imagine that devastation to the country through war and famine, which must affect the animals as well as the humans, has pushed them, like other animals, into human settlements where they can scrounge food from a variety of sources. But that's my guess. It shocked me to read that their jaws are as powerful as those of white sharks!

That experience with coyotes is unnerving! The closest we have to that in the UK would be from wild animals that escape zoos or private owners. I imagine wolves operate similarly to coyotes.

My Dad was out walking his little dog and a panther started stalking them. It was probably after the little dog and not Dad, but Dad isn't going to let something take the little dog without a fight. He carries a gun on their walks, but it is illegal to shoot panthers - what to do - what to do!

Thanks for the link (an interesting site in itself). What a horrible death to suffer but I feel sorry for wild animals like the hyenas though. I bet the bush fires are growing more and more devastating to their food supply because of encroachment from human. They have to live as well.
