"Restaurant Quality"

I follow MasterChef (currently in Season 10) and one phrase you hear from time to time is "Restaurant Quality" as in "that's restaurant quality". Reminds me that when I was a lad and I said to my mother something like "Is it going to be as good as in a restaurant?," referring to a home cooked meal. She looked at me matter-of-factly and said "It'll be better than anything in a restaurant." I took me years to understand that except for a dish in an expensive Michelin-starred restaurant requiring special equipment or very complicated techniques or super expensive ingredients, you can cook at home much better food than you can get in a restaurant.

I can cook better than most restaurants I can afford, but not all. There is one restaurant in town that consistently makes better food than I can make at home but I'm self taught with the help of a few books and YouTube. It comes down to the chef and quality of ingredients. Now if it's just comfort food that mama made, well obviously that will be better than any restaurant.
