Anyone try Wagyu beef?

i know it's terribly expensive, but have you? Is it that delicious as the price suggests?

Is Wagyu the American version of Kobe beef? I've had a Kobe cheeseburger and a local supermarket/meat market once. It only cost (ONLY) around $15 (so I'm guessing it was the inferior American version) NOT $100 which I've read or seen on tv for the real Japanese stuff. It was very-good, but I don't know if it was the best I've ever had. I thought $15 was steep in price for a cheeseburger.

Wagyu (和牛 Wagyū?, "Japanese cow") is any of several breeds of cattle, the most desired of which is genetically predisposed to intense marbling and to producing a high percentage of oleaginous unsaturated fat. The meat from such wagyu cattle is known for its quality, and commands a high price. In several areas of Japan, wagyu beef is shipped carrying area names. Some examples are Matsusaka beef, Kobe beef, Yonezawa beef, Mishima beef,[1] Ōmi beef and Sanda beef.

In the United States, Japanese Wagyu cattle are bred with Angus cattle. This crossbreed has been named American Style Kobe Beef

I've never had it though.

Yes, I LOVE that series!! Been some years since I've actually watched it. Used to watch it on WTTW channel 11 back in the day along with 'Monty Python', classic 'Doctor Who', 'Blake's 7' and 'Tripods'. WTTW may or may not have been showing all these shows during the same time-period as 'Tripods' came a bit after the others.

I've read in some article that you can't get real Japanese Kobe beef in the US. The article for its headline stated something like "Think you've had Kobe beef? Wrong!" then went on state that Kobe beef from Japan can't be imported into the US. I don't know if that's still true, or not. I think it mention that people who've eaten a Kobe burger at The Old Homestead restaurant in NYC (or anywhere else in America) didn't eat the real Japanese version, but only the American version.

The OP is about Wagyu. You're posting links about the availability of Kobe.

Is Wagyu the American version of Kobe beef?Wagyu just means Japanese beef. Our Australian posters will confirm that Wagyu is common in the country as they are one of the world's largest producers of it. Had a Wagyu burger at one of Sydney's better restos. It was good. Wagyu is also common in Thailand at steak restaurants. I saw it everywhere. Lots of Australian Wagyu in Europe as well.

I've had Wagyu several times. It's nice.
