Sunday Supper- December 11

Hi, everyone, we are having the first big winter storm of the season and it's snowing bunches here. It's the start of a dreaded polar vortex event that will bring record-breaking cold this coming week along with more snow. I've already cleared snow twice since noon and it looks like 2-3 more clearings will be needed by morning. So, being the Michigander who has dealt with all my life, I'm ready and have a snow day meal going.

I'm making pulled pork with a honey and soy glaze and have just taken a boule of crusty artisan bread out of the oven.

What's everyone else having for supper today? And those of you lucky enough to be in warmer climates, please cheer us northerners and plains dwellers with some juicy descriptions of warm weather food!

We had snow a few days ago. Enough to make the yards white, but the streets were soon dry. It didn't last long but was pretty while it did. We got big flakes yesterday for about 10 minutes but they didn't stay. It's been drizzling rain off and on all day today. We haven't seen much sun lately, but can't really complain.

We had a late lunch/early supper of ham slices in BBQ sauce, baked sweet potato and a big green salad. Enjoy your supper and stay warm! 

Well, I can't really greet you from a warm climate, but it's nothing close to what you're experiencing, which is making news. Fog, rain and overcast don't combine to create the cheeriest weather, but they don't have to be shoveled. I commend you folks ... you're made of "stuff!"  

I'm going to broil a portion of a top sirloin/"London broil," and steam a couple of red potatoes. I always do extra potatoes, to allow for a favorite breakfast. 

I do miss those magical first days of snow when everything is sparkling and the almost deafening quiet. I don't miss the weeks and months afterward, shoveling and bitter cold and the snow changes from pristine white to dull gray.

My in laws sent us a package of Omaha steaks for Christmas last week, so tonight we're having sirloin steaks, twice baked potatoes, roasted broccoli, and caramel apple tarts. I don't recall ever getting meat from Omaha before so I'm curious to see what the quality will be compared to what we get at the store.

Our weather here is cold but nothing like yours. There's no snow and it's been raining off and on for the past few days. The Christmas lights in the neighborhood look so pretty shining off the wet street and sidewalk and the wind is softly blowing the leaves down the street.

Be careful out there shoveling all the snow or having to travel in it. From what I've heard from family living on the East Coast, it's crazy hard driving or even walking.

Family are coming over for dinner tonight and to watch a movie. I made blackeye pea and ham gumbo with rice on the side. There's Artichoke Jalapeno dip with chips and chocolate chip bread for dessert.

Stay warm and safe, athene!

We had campanelle pasta with roasted butternut squash, sauteed mushrooms, arugula, and parmesan.
