shareGuilty is guilty, for me there's no way around that.
But one always has to evaluate the circumstances of the crime and there may be crimes committed under circumstances that are so understandable/reasonable that the sentence can be "guilty without punishment".
The law even recognizes several such things where the law defines a crime to be no crime under given circumstances, i.e. killing someone in self defense.

shareI would nullify/not convict any person who killed their family member's rapist and/or murderer. Or opt for a very light sentence just to provide a veneer of accountability. They would have my complete sympathy.
When you hear most of these criminals talk about themselves, its just that - about themselves, rather than the people they mangled. There's very little use for psychopaths/killers.
As most of you know, I'm pretty left - but not on violent crime. I think most premeditated murderers should be presumptively good for the d/p.
I like this. I remember hearing a story about a woman who was raped and abused by her husband or boyfriend for years. She couldn’t leave him or was too afraid to. Eventually, she killed him and ended up in prison. That’s not right. She deserved justice — she deserved her revenge. If I were on the jury, she would have walked free.

Frankly this topic makes me think of a stupid law called the Safety Act the democrats in my state of Illinois passed which pretty well makes it so you don't get put in jail or require bail unless you murder or rape someone. I personally know of a case where 2 men burned down a building, were arrested, and couldn't be put in jail because of that stupid law.

A few years ago, an illegal Hispanic, and yes there are many illegals that have been here for many years here in the USA robbed and murdered a Spanish woman coming home from shopping.
The family and sons of the murdered mom were so outraged they tracked the perpetrator down and he was beaten to death. In this tight Hispanic neighborhood, there wasn't one Juror member that found the sons guilty, and they walked free.
I believe this was in the Bronx Ny and I agree on the verdict!
