King Edward VIII was a Nazi scumbag

Considering that the British Monarchy had been under the effective control of the elected PM and Ministers constitutionally for centuries, the very unstable fellow came to the throne apparently with the ambition to inject himself politically, had a great affection for the autocrats popping up in Europe, was an anti-semite and fascist, hob-nobbing with Mosley and the fascist circles within Britain. His paramour, Wallace-Simpson, was knee deep in the far right social circles, and pointed the rather simple Crown Prince in that direction.

In this context, when we view the abdication drama, it should be understand that the objections to Edward were profound, his obstinate intention to marry the twice-divorced clearly unscrupulous woman a very useful pretext to get him out of the way. The history of Britain would have been a lot saltier if he'd been allowed to remain.
