is there a tranny barbie?
shareYou could probably design that one.
sharesure, send me a picture of your last boyfriend, i'll get on it.
(on making the barbie, not on your ex)
Just take a selfy.
shareyou seem like the kind of person who takes pride in telling people your pronouns.
shareAll they did was give Barbie a stick to hold. They could have at least given her a Forrest Whitaker eye or two.
shareHer eyes have a glazed look, has sunglasses and her clothes are tactile.
I agree Mattel is stingy. She should come with a seeing eye dog and audio/braille books, also.
Those are great ideas, especially the braille. As it is, you could hand a blind child outdoor adventure Barbie with a hiking stick and the child wouldn't be able to tell the difference between that and this new blind Barbie; adding braille would not only distinguish the Barbie, but it would add something that "speaks" to the child with a disability on a more personal level.
shareThanks. It would be interesting for a blind child since she could feel the books in braille. I just found out that the box the doll comes in has braille on it.
Apparently, Blind Barbie is really Low-Vision Barbie:
"An all-white cane means that the user is completely blind and has no usable vision. A white cane with a red bottom means that the user has low, but some usable vision. A white and red striped cane means that the user is totally blind and/or deaf.
I have a blind friend that uses assistive technology instead of braille stuff. Text-to-speech and zoom magnifier on the laptop/mobile phone, a bright flashlight to see in the dark. He's not completely blind though. Right side is all dark (blind) but left eye can see 20% still.
shareThey probably don't make many books in braille now.
I know sighted people who went completely blind. That's scary.
Black Barbie with Downs Syndrome is debuting at the same time.

Oh, so they DO have color variations. I was chuckling when she said the doll looks like her when it isn't even the same skin tone. POC focus on color while Whites focus on condition? At least that's what I got out of the promo. She didn't even bother to ask if it was the same shade. If you're going to say that she can't see, then why even bother painting the doll since they can't see anything. Mattel can easily save much more money.
shareThe doll doesn't have to be the same skin tone to look like her. Sighted girls will play with Blind Barbie, too.
shareWhat does it say when this wouldve been an SNL commercial during the 2000s? ...2010s? Too soon?
