Gaza gonna turn into West Bank v2.0

Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel will assume “overall security responsibility” for Gaza once the war ends, in the clearest indication yet of his government’s post-war strategy.

Speaking on Monday, the prime minister said Israel would take that role “for an indefinite period” because “we’ve seen what happens when we don’t have it”.

The comments were taken in some quarters as a sign that Israel intends to fully occupy the Gaza Strip once hostilities end, a daunting prospect that would require a permanent presence of thousands of troops.

But analysts noted that Mr Netanyahu’s phrasing appeared to be a direct reference to the language of the 1995 Oslo Accords, which established the three zones of the West Bank: A, B and C.

In all three, Israel has “overall security responsibility”, insofar as its military can enter the territory and carry out operations at will. The Palestinian Authority (PA) operates security services and retains political control in zones A and B.

Inviting the Palestinian Authority to take over Gaza, controlling its politics and some form of police, would mark a U-turn for the Netanyahu government, which has undermined the group for years.

Mr Lovatt warned Israel “would be importing a model that has proven to have failed if you look at the situation in the West Bank”, he said.

Rights groups last month recorded the worst month of violence there in more than two decades, with a rise in attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians.

“One of the biggest mistakes Netanyahu’s governments have made for years is to try to reduce the Palestinians to a security threat alone while refusing to accept that this is a larger political question,” Dahlia Scheindlin, a political analyst and author of The Crooked Timber of Democracy in Israel: Promise Unfulfilled.

“I see no sustainable political – or security – solution in his words, not even a pretence of long-term thinking.”

Concerns have also been raised about the Palestinian Authority’s deep unpopularity in Gaza, where it is largely viewed as corrupt and too close to Israel.

Western politicians have discussed the possibility of deploying peace-keepers or running an international mandate in Gaza.

No one willing to take the mantle to govern Gaza after the war is over either. Until they have bodycams, IDF will be immune, and without control over Nazi settlers, it'll only repeat itself once more but Israel will be able to suppress it in their favor.

The world will in time make Israel stop the war. There is no way a UN run country will keep Iran from getting more idiots to start Hamas again. The best thing is to let Israel run the place till when the civilians will mature enough to keep out Hamas.
