Party politics aside: whats everyones stance on K9 car searches.

I do not mean the general usage of k9s. i mean when cops are denied being allowed to search it themselves and immediately go to "well the K9 will come then". I can see the different sides views

-your car may be private but you are in public so the cop has every right to run its dog around your car. and indispensable and undoubtably effective in combatting crime especially drug smuggling.

-its a gross violation of rights.its akin to cops walking around neighbourhood with dogs and then searching any house the dogs show interest in. if the cop really wants to search the cops can basically get the dogs to false alert and its essentially one giant facade to give them an excuse to massively violate rights.

It sounds unconstitutional to me. But, the rapist, sex predators, grifters and religious fanatics on the Supreme Court will decide based on how their moneyed donators and delusions tell them.

That's where warrants and lawsuits come in. They don't get to willy nilly search property. Well, maybe around the property and maaybe around the grass but definitely not in the home.

i agree homes are obv protected. but i could see both sides saying "well why aren't cars then? i have the right to travel and privacy and not be harassed or detained for no good reason. and saying "i denied yu consent to search isnt a reason to say you can get a dog and search me"

im just playing devols advocate i see both sides position.
