Do liberal Democrats understand the difference between a legally purchased gun and an illegal one?

Something like 85% of gun crime is committed with an unregistered weapon.

Democrats can create a law that would mandatory lock up anyone caught with an illegal weapon. But they never do that or ever talk about illegal weapons, why?

If there was a law which would call for mandatory long sentences for anyone caught with a illegal gun the prisons would be packed with black people and Democrats would never be responsible for that.

In fact when cold hard criminals with priors are caught with an illegal gun, Democrat prosecutors reduce the charges.

Every time there is a mass shooting the Democrats only talk about clamping down on people who want to legally purchase a gun.
They never want to get more strict on illegal weapons.
Something very off with this Democrat party.
