If you had a small fire burning on your stove I bet you would try and put it out with gasoline because that is the mentality of those who are pro gun.
Somehow they think that throwing more and more guns at the problem is the solution which it never will be.
What is that saying about insanity?
Doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results when you always get the same outcome.
As for citizens with a gun who stop shooters two things on this.
1) It rarely ever happens.
2) When it does, the majority of the time the shooter shot and killed one, a couple or a few others before he was stopped.
It would be better if he didn't kill at all and so getting rid of guns is the best solution overall since it will prevent the most deaths.

If you disagree then look up the family of the kid that was killed and reassure them that guns are the solution and how others, but their son, were not killed.

According to the studies though you're wrong, and more guns means less crime. Harvard conducted a study in 2007 that came to this conclusion. I understand that your mind is set and no amount of fact will change it, but you're not the target for this information.
Eliminating guns from law-abiding citizens will not remove them from the hands of criminals- this idea is so juvenile I really can't believe you're suggesting it here. I'm not certain what your point is regarding those shot by the 17 year old- that the legal gun owner should have been quicker?
BTW there are plenty of countries that do not allow guns, and that did not make it the second amendment. Why not move there? I mean think of all the sane folk you're likely to meet.

Guns are easy to get on the street, and they don't even need to originate in the US, sidestepping any position the US takes. I want to think you're heart is in the right place, but the facts are in and you're wrong in your take here.
BTW not every gun starts as a legal gun. And with the soft on crime position the US has taken why not use them against the citizenry?

But for guys like me who is not in that criminal mindset and who may not pass a background check, even if I wanted one for protection, I would have no idea where to start or who to approach.

Yes for criminals- that's who w are talking about. We weren't talking about legal gun owners, we were taliing about illegal gun owners- go back and read.

You must be young and not know anything about history or politics. That constitution is on shaky legs and only patriots are keeping it in use. The Chinese had their right to arms taken away and we see how that went. Canada- a country with very restricted firearm access, currently turning into a communist nation in front of us. Ever heard the phrase "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely"? The founding fathers believed it to be very important for arms to be available to the citizens due to their experiences in Europe. You think you can depend on your rights when in this very conversation you're rallying to eliminate one of them? If you and your type are successful where do you think that will end?
