Duante Wright case - Manslaughter charges - convict or acquit?

I think the cop should be acquitted on the manslaughter charges since the young man was actively resisting arrest. I do think the cop probably should have been fired or forced to retire since her mistake was pretty significant. The young man drove off in his car for several blocks before crashing so his getaway may have contributed to his death. The cops might have been able to put pressure on the wound and get an ambulance out there sooner if he stayed put.

The whole situation could have been avoided if he had just allowed the cops to cuff him and take him to the station. He had a serious warrant out for his arrest so he was probably going to spend some time behind bars.

I was disappointed that I didn't get any replies on this post but it's a hot topic. I have decided that cops should have an enhanced qualified immunity when a suspect is resisting arrest since those encounters can become life-or-death struggles in a matter of seconds.

In the Duante Wright case, I would have no problem with a murder charge if Wright agreed to be cuffed and the officers then decided to beat Wright to death. That would be a situation where Wright cooperated but the cops decided to kill him. Wright did not cooperate with the cops by allowing them to cuff him. That doesn't mean I want cops to automatically kill a person who is not cooperating but they should not be accountable if a suspect dies during a struggle.

Throw the book at her! "I thought my Glock was a Taser" Yeah, right...🙄

I agree.

If he hadn't been a criminal and resisted arrest none of that would have happened.

If I had that job I still can't see myself pulling a gun out on a citizen unless it was absolutely last resort.

Be quick or be dead. A lot of these deadly encounters take place in a matter of seconds so a cop can't wait to pull out their gun. It all depends on a cop's beat. A small-town cop probably wouldn't have to fire his gun but a cop in Baltimore/NYC/Chicago would have to use their gun more often. The cop in video below was punched in the face and had a broken bone in her face. It could have been worse if she fell and hit her head.

Good news! The jury didn't buy her crap about confusing her Glock for a Taser...

There was no question about her confusing her Glock for a taser, that's what happen, which is why she was charged with manslaughter, not murder. With that said, I think the Jury came to the correct conclusion. What happened was an accident, but this accident cost someone their life, so she should absolutely serve some time behind bars.

I'm disappointed about the verdict since she messed up while doing her job. I think it was a mistake and the whole situation could have been avoided if he had complied by allowing the cops to cuff him. I don't understand how Wright was not locked up since he had already pointed his gun at two people and shot one of them in the head.

I think it's unfortunate that a cop is going to prison because a criminal resisted arrest. I don't think cops should go to prison if a criminal is injured or dies while resisting arrest. Who will sign up to be a cop if they will be sent to prison for doing their job? Will cops run to danger if they can be sent to prison when things don't go perfectly? Civilized society cannot continue if laws are not enforced.

Should have never been charged.

I think she should have been innocent.
