shareYeah, it's definitely not that simple.
There are posters on this board who think Chauvin committed premediated murder as well, and that it was race-related. Neither are true. The fentanyl was absolutely a factor, and so was Chauvin's behavior. The fentanyl constricted Floyd's breathing, and set up the situation that led to his death. But his death could have been prevented, when instead it was exacerbated.
Based on all available information, my view is that his death was an outcome of neglect by the officers. Not just Chauvin, but all of them at the scene. Floyd was complaining of problems, including having difficulty breathing, which was from the fentanyl, long before they had him on the ground. They completely ignored this, and proceeded anyway, with Chauvin pulling the questionable maneuver to pin him down (it should be noted that this was a maneuver they were trained to perform).
Most likely, that maneuver alone did not directly constrict his breathing enough to kill him, but combined with the fentanyl in his system already causing issues, it pushed the situation over the edge, i.e. both sides are right, and both sides are wrong.
Most importantly, Chauvin displayed a complete lack of sympathy and forgot his oath to protect and serve (which yes, includes the criminals themselves). He, and the others with him, didn't even begin to consider that Floyd was in real medical distress, letting their bias about his criminal background shape their willingness to believe that he might be in real trouble medically. They should have validated his claims by getting him medical attention. Instead, they sat on him for over ten minutes.
I also think that Chauvin was over-charged and over-convicted. He was guilty of negligent homicide, not murder. But without his actions (or lack of actions), Floyd would be alive today. That said, deifying Floyd, and the rampant riots that were allowed and excused, and even passed off as not being COVID super-spreader events, not to mention the politicization, defund the police, etc. nonsense that followed, is mindboggling and disgusting. Chauvin not doing his job properly is disgusting.
Both sides of the aisle are off base, and often are. Measured, reasonable thinking seems to have become a thing of the past.

But I'd like to just say that "well there are more white people" is a very valid point mathematically and statisticly speaking, and the statistics should be adjusted to relect that.
It reminds me of an old saying:

Not so! Percentage wise there are more Whites in poverty. Just as Blacks make up 13% in population, but commit more than 50% of the crime.
Using West Virginia there are 14 % of White people in poverty vs 2 % of Black people in poverty! Again more Whites in poverty percentage wise.
