How do you view capital punishment?

Some call it punishment, some say it is revenge.

I don't even think it should be called "punishment". I just think of it as getting rid of a problem.

If I step on a piece of broken glass on my floor, I don't put it away in a box and consider dropping it back onto my floor at some point in the future. I just throw it in the trash so it won't cut my feet ever again.

I'm not punishing it or getting revenge on it. I'm just permanently removing it from my environment.

it gives the state even more God like power. and i've seen too many cases of where it turned out that someone went to jail and was later found not to be guilty. i don't trust the justice system enough to give them that power.

Through a peephole.

I wish they could bring back public executions, at the very least mandatory viewing for other felons and at-risk youth. "Scared Straight" worked pretty well back in the 70s-80s. Watching an execution should discourage at least a few future murders.

How did my comment inspire your comment?

I thought of you peering through a peephole at an execution like some little kid in the 1930s watching a ball game through a wooden fence. Then I changed the ball game to an old-fashioned public hanging.

For murderers, rapist, child/elderly/animal abusers I'm 100% for it

It’s fine as long as there’s overwhelming proof. If there’s any question then prison is the best option.

We should also be using lesser crime prisoners to clean up trash on the road. Homeless camps. Fight fires. Give them the opportunity to contribute to society to shave time off.

Make prisons great again.
