I was listening to a podcast a week or so past and one of the boffins said that Abu Bakr ( he came to power after Muhammad's death and ruled from 632-661 AD ) decided that the only way he could stop the Arab tribes from fighting wars with each other was to get them all to unite and fight wars against non-Arabs. And so began the Arab conquests.
