Just what someone who unquestioningly tows a line would say in confusion after witnessing someone who tows no line at all, but who instead thinks on a case-by-case basis, at least attempting unbiased objectivity, and with a scope greater than the narrow-minded confines of any one single ideology. If you think Rorikon tows a line, you haven't been paying attention. Though occasionally succumbing to belief despite my best efforts, perusing Rorikon’s history, he’s never been squarely on one side or the other.
Anyone striving to think reasonably about all topics will tend to either conflict with or agree with one side or the other occasionally (reality isn’t binary, and isn’t either-or), sometimes both within the same sentence. They don't belong to a hive mind. They're a rare breed. Only a few exist. To evolve into one, you merely have to choose to resist the easy path of groupthink and tribalism. Although it's a simple choice, it's not an easy state to maintain due to our evolved emotional frailty and complexity amid incessant influences.
No one should ever be loyal to one side or the other, and yet today’s society is more tribal than ever before, on both sides. The only thing that should ever matter is the truth, not what you believe the truth to be (or how anyone feels about it), but what empirical observation reveals it to be (regardless of emotional attachments, which should be sloughed off like dead skin).
A true thinker sits on the fence. A true believer chooses a side, and remains loyal even when incongruent with reality.
