Australia will one day we invaded. It's inevitable with their military build up and occupancy of the Pacific.

America should just tell Australia to get nuclear weapons and help it to do so if necessary. Problem solved.

I'd expect at least a heavy reaction when a member of the Commonwealth would get into trouble.
A NATO involvement would be something to expect too, the US wouldn't hold back.
In the end, it's about land stolen from natives by a colonizing nation. China only comes centuries late to the party.

Well yes from that point of view if China can invade Australia and hang onto it then that would be okay from the point of view of old school rules.
